Unbelievable!!!

How can we begin to thank you all for your unbelievable generosity and support of our Sew for the Cure Sale.  We raised over $11,000 for Megan's Fund.

We also want to thank all the ladies who donated so much of their time and talent to make this happen, those who donated so many beautiful items and our staff who worked tirelessly this last week getting everything ready.

We love you all!!!
Joe & Sharon

Here is Mindy, our newest staffer, doing some last minute spiffing up before we open.  Yesterday she was washing windows!  I bet she can hardly wait until we hire someone new so that she doesn't get all the fun jobs anymore!  It can't be too bad though, at least she gets to vaccum with a Starbucks in her hand!

Our seasoned customers to this event knew to bring their lawn chairs and started lining up over two hours before we opened.

There were so many beautiful things to choose from, everyone watched closely as we hung every quilt and took pictures in case they weren't able to purchase their quilt of choice.

That's JoAnn, Megan's mom, taking pictures of the crowd.  I'm sure you will see a new post soon on her Wool Crazy Blog.

Once people finished their shopping in our front yard, they came to our backyard for some wonderful inspiration!

Another thank you is in order to all our wonderful students and customers who brought their completed projects to share.  You always turn our backyard into a quilters wonderland!

You know how much fun it is to quilt with friends, have lunch with friends and shop with friends!  This group of ladies (The Quilt Bags) has been quilting together, having lunch in La Mesa and shopping at The Country Loft on Saturdays (Quilt Show or not) for many years!  We so appreciate their continuing support and friendship!

In the next week, we will have all the pictures from our show on our website.  We will also have our new class schedule with samples available on the website too!  We have a wonderful slate of classes for fall and hope you will take a look and come join in the fun!

Welcome Fall

Fall is our favorite time of year at The Country Loft.  We love the warmth of the colors and the spirit of the season.  We truly do have so many things for which we are thankful and you, our friends and loyal customers, are right at the top of our list!!

We will be ushering in this beautiful time of year tomorrow, Saturday, August 27th, with our Outdoor Quilt Show and Sew for the Cure Sale.  We promise to tempt you with gorgeous new fall decorations, fabrics, kits, classes, incredible quilts to purchase and many more for inspiration!  The only thing we can't promise you is cool, crisp fall weather . . .but we will have ice cold bottles of water!

In the past twelve years we have raised over $100,000 at our benefit sales and donated it to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  This year we have a very immediate need in the Country Loft family.  As many of you know, JoAnn's daughter, Megan, has been battling melanoma cancer.  We were so thankful that our prayers were answered and her tumors responded to the trial drug that she was on and they began to shrink.  Since Megan's treatments, the drug was approved by the FDA and is now available to all individuals afflicted with this terrible cancer.  The downside however is that now people have to pay for the treatments that cost $120,000 each.

Unfortunately,  Megan's tumors have begun to grow again and she has to undergo more treatments the first of which began on Wednesday of this week.  She does have insurance that will cover a portion of the cost this time, but the deductible alone is a staggering amount for this young family to handle.  So, our immediate thought was that we would be able to help defray the cost of these life-sustaining treatments and direct the money we collect from our Sew for the Cure sale into a fund for Megan.

Therefore, we have set up a benefit fund with Mission Federal Credit Union in Grossmont Center.  All the money we collect tomorrow at our sale will go to the Megan Gianotti Benefit Fund and will then be dispersed to Megan.  This fund will remain open for as long as it is needed and can be donated to at any time simply by writing a check made out to Megan Gianotti and sending it to Mission Federal Credit Union, 5500 Grossmont Center Dr. Ste 113, La Mesa, CA 91942 or to The Country Loft, 4685 Date Ave., La Mesa, CA 91941, with the account number (91223311) in the 'memo' area of the check.  Cash donations can be made at either location.  Money collected in the fund will be sent to Megan on a regular basis.

We appreciate everyone's generosity and hope you understand the necessity in directing the proceeds from your purchases at our sale to Megan's Fund for however long she might need them.  Be sure to check back after the weekend for some outdoor pictures of our fun filled day!  We are looking forward to seeing you all!

Thanks Renee!

It is always so much fun having Renee Plains from Liberty Star teaching at the store.  We really appreciate her traveling all the way from Scottsdale to bring her primitive style to The Country Loft!

Kathy & JoAnn both took time off from work to join in the fun!  You know these classes must be fabulous if I can get these two to stop working!

Just a quick reminder:  Our annual Outdoor Quilt Show and Sew for the Cure Sale is soon approaching - Saturday, August 27th from 10-5.  If you have any new items you would like to donate for the sale or if you would like us to display any of your projects in the student sharing show, please bring everything in beginning next week and no later than Thursday.  Also, I want to remind our customers that any purchases of Sew for the Cure items must be made with either cash or a check, sorry no credit cards.

Jeni Gaston visits The Loft

The latest issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects has arrived at the store and so did Jeni Gaston one of the editors.  Jeni was out for Quilt Festival in Long Beach and took a little extra time to visit some quilt shops.  We are so honored that ours was one of them.

Here she is with Kathy and JoAnn.  If you check out the Happy Birthday page of this issue you will find a message to Gertrude Peabody, Kathy and JoAnn's mom.  That cute little vintage picture is Gert as a baby!

JoAnn, of course, had to give Jeni a tour of the wool room.  JoAnn is going to have projects featured in the next four issues of the magazine.  We just love our Wool Crazy lady!

And one last photo of Jeni checking out one of Cheri Payne's patterns.  I'm sure as editor of a primitive magazine, Cheri's patterns would have to be one of her favorites!

She also had a chance to visit with Kathy Cardiff while she was at the store. Kathy's wool mats are seen above Jeni in this picture.  She is also going to have a project featured in the magazine.

Speaking of Cheri . . . . be sure to check out her four new patterns that she just brought into the store.  They are fabulous as always!!
