We Wish You A Merry Christmas!!!

Since Susy, my blogmaster, is enjoying this holiday in New York City with her husband and son (lucky girl!!!) it was left up to me to create this week's post.  Owning a retail store makes the holidays a little crazy, so I thought I would share with you one of my collections that keeps me grounded and brings a little bit of peace to our home this time of year.

Salt glaze pottery has always been one of my favorite things so when I found this salt glaze nativity, I couldn't resist and thus started my nativity collection.  This one found a home on an old dry sink in my living room this year.

And, a saltglaze crock with a nativity painted on it holds a small tree in the same room.

This nativity is by a company called Wolf Creek.  Many of you know them from the wood blocks that spelled out many different greetings. I know many of you have those blocks in your homes.

I love looking for nativities made in different mediums and this one is made from sheets of heavy medal that have been bent so that the figures can stand.  This nativity sits on an old butter churn in my family room this year.

This painting is by folk artist Maria Pfropper and depicts a nativity display in the middle of an early town.  I love the way she continued the painting from the canvas onto the frame.

Of course many of you who are Jan Patek fans probably have this nativity hanging in your homes.  She has always been one of my favorite quilt designers.  She has a very distinct folk art style and I love it!

This nativity is made of chalkware by Vaillancourt Folk Art.  Joe and I visited their studio in Connecticut many years ago and it was so interesting to see how the pieces are created and each painted by hand.  I know many of you have some Vaillancourt Folk Art in your homes.

And I'm sure many of you recognize the folk art whimsy of Williraye.  Our son has many of their Santas in a  collection that we started for him about 30 years ago. I was lucky enough to get the nativity.  It is sitting on an old pie safe in my family room and always makes me smile.

Again, in my living room, is this primitive folk art nativity.  It is made of wood and hand painted.  It takes up almost all the space on top of this old jelly cupboard.  I just love the little black sheep in the foreground.  I always put him in front of the white sheep.  I think black sheep need a break once in awhile!

And probably one of my favorites is this primitive hand carved wood nativity.  I love that it is made on an old window frame.  We hang it on our patio that faces east overlooking El Cajon valley.  Joe took this picture just as the sun was coming up yesterday and it is so beautiful how the wire mountains that the artist put in the frame echo the Lagunas in the background.

Many of these nativities were made for me or given to me by my family and friends at the Country Loft.  They bring to mind those things that are the most precious.  I cherish each one of you and your support and friendship over the last thirty years.  I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and fun filled times with your family and friends that are special to you.

                                                                                         Much Love,
                                                                                         Sharon
